Dr. LaBarge was recently a panelist for the Take Charge of Your Health Community Health Seminar. This community health event was supported by the University of Florida Health Disparities Research and Intervention Program.
Dr. LaBarge has presented her research on improving cultural competence in the healthcare setting, which focused on bridging the gap between patients and providers. In this study, patients lent their voices to inform healthcare providers of what they need in order to feel safe to disclose non-heterosexual sexual partnering behaviors. She was honored to participate in the first annual educational summit for Understanding Sexual Orientation & Gender Identities: A Healthcare Perspective. This event was hosted by the Suwannee River Area Health Education Center and facilitated by professionals dedicated to creating inclusive and welcoming healthcare environments.
